We’ve all been experiencing the need to move through challenge with flexibility and resilience in recent months. Change has a way of reminding us of our core values and skillsets and how they can—and sometimes must—adapt to our environment and circumstances.

James Beard nominated chef Ashley Capps and chef Travis Schultz, partners in life and business, had been planning to open a spot of their own when the pandemic hit. How do you serve a community you love while honoring a deep-rooted passion for the value of nourishment? During this season of exploration the two have made a commitment to explore and celebrate what they love through their venture New Stock: “curated meals that support small producers, feature high quality ingredients, made with care and delivered to you.” Every week the creative duo come together with an artfully curated collection of locally procured ingredients and small-batch prepared goods to bring beauty and connection to others.

Thoughtful, ready-to-bake, made-from-scratch meals bring an element of comfort and ease to an evening. Fresh breads pair with spreadable cheese and fruit compotes. Bountiful salads are abundant with greens, herbs, vegetables and partnered with homemade dressings and vinaigrettes. Delightful desserts bring an element of sweetness and nostalgia. Add a little magic to cocktails with the addition of homemade mixers. All items are selected with care and intention with an eye on mindful sourcing and culinary storytelling.

While this test project is currently small with potential to grow it still provides such a valuable opportunity for both the creators and recipients to celebrate characteristics we hope will always hold true. From Ashley: “What has changed? Future plans. Daily routines. Work. World. Everything. What has NOT changed? Our desire to serve others. An ingrained responsibility to support small businesses. Appreciation for high quality products. The love for cooking really good food that makes people happy.”
